emergency medical care

Medical emergencies are traumatic and stressful for the patient as well as the family and loved ones. That’s why we’re proud to be able to provide peace of mind in our community with emergency medical care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in the emergency department at Weisbrod Hospital.

If you or a family member have a medical emergency, our highly trained medical staff are ready to provide you with the treatment you need.

The Weisbrod Health emergency care team includes dedicated medical doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, and radiology and laboratory professionals. We can provide essential emergency services, including the stabilization and initial treatment of acute medical conditions, major injuries, and common illnesses, as well as critical care interventions such as basic life support and initial diagnostic services.

To enhance the care you receive, our emergency department is fully equipped with emergency telehealth capabilities that allow our care team to connect with board-certified emergency physicians and nurses when needed.  If you or your loved one needs a higher level of care, the emergency department team can help coordinate a transfer to a larger facility.

Kiowa County Ambulance Services

The Kiowa County Ambulance Service is on standby for moments when you or a loved one needs medical transportation in an emergency or to transfer to another facility. Our medical director, Dr. Michael Mandrell, is an emergency-trained physician with extensive experience managing emergency services for agencies across Eastern Colorado. He, along with our EMS Director Bryan Mattuski, oversees the Kiowa County Ambulance Department, ensuring the delivery of the highest quality of care.

Our EMS team consists of trained and certified:

  • EMS Drivers
  • Emergency Medical Technicians
  • Paramedics

Ambulance Transportation

Weisbrod Health operates the Kiowa County Ambulance Service on behalf of Kiowa County. Three ambulance vehicles, positioned throughout the county, are available for emergency calls, interfacility transfers, or transporting patients from the Front Range to Weisbrod Hospital for admission to our inpatient rehabilitation program.

Facility Transfers

Kiowa County Ambulance Service offers a basic life support transfer service and is capable of transferring patients between facilities who are stable but still need some level of medical supervision.

Kiowa County Ambulance Service does not provide advanced life support transports between facilities. This type of transfer is typically necessary for patients with serious medical conditions that require continuous monitoring, medication administration, or advanced interventions. We partner with other agencies in the area to coordinate ground transfers of this level.

For patients needing more urgent transfers to a higher level of care, the team at Weisbrod Hospital works closely with the nearest available air flight care team to get patients where they need to go as quickly as possible to get the care they need.
